Lord Henry Wotton, played by the actor Simon Coury, in an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. The shadow is cast by the easel and frame of the painting that is the subject of the play. But Lord Henry's hedonistic and darkling shadow also falls over the younger Dorian with disastrous consequences. I was invited to a pre-erformance rehearsal session and Mr Coury kindly struck this pose for the intended portrait.
