The misspelling of asymmetric is intentional. The setting is on Great Blasket Island looking towards the mainland with the three donkeys in an, eh... assymmetric pose. The rare long-haired donkey ponders the asymmetric form of the old broken fork. The island was abandoned in 1953 when the Irish-speaking population moved to the mainland. A few houses have recently been restored. The islands feature in several of my other paintings — Islanders, Island Requiem, West of Eden, Cathedral, and Towards the Blaskets.
