This is on a glue-sized Claessens linen prepared with a ground made of a very fine French chalk and boiled linseed oil, toned with mixed-in touches of oil paints, and painted with a very limited palette of just red (Chinese vermilion and deep ochre), yellow (brilliant yellow and Mars yellow), white and black. It was painted using a mirror, just under life size. I believe this is the first self-portrait I have painted, delayed due to an abundance of modesty.
